By the time one is done purchasing the home, there is barely any energy left to plan how to furnish it. One of the most important items that people get for their new home is the TV. It offers a welcome respite from long days at work, and is perfect for putting your feet up and relaxing. However, picking a TV for the home is not a simple matter of fixing a budget and getting the best TV within that. If you are looking to buy a TV for large properties like our apartments in TNagar, there are several factors that you need to consider.

Location of the TV:

First determine where you are going to mount the TV. Will there be a stand or will you mount it on the wall? What is the clearance from the ceiling? Do you have a good viewing distance from where your seating will be?

You need the answers to all these questions. The wall against which it is hung, will need to be measured to get the correct TV size.

Stand With:

All the TVs come with stands for placing them in an entertainment centre. The stand width and length must not exceed this module. Measure the stand and the counter to ensure they fit without compromising the stability of the TV.

Comfortable viewing distance:

According to a study by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, the display should fill 30 degrees of your field of vision. The ideal screen size can be calculated from the distance between the TV placement and your seating area. The formula is as below:

TV Size = Seating Distance (in inches) X 0.625

If your viewing distance is 80 inches, then the appropriate TV size would be,

TV Size = 80*0.625 = 50 inches.

Taking the example of a 1080p TV, the optimal viewing distances are as follows.

TV Size (In inches)Viewing Distance (In feet)
<43”5’ -6.5’
50”-55”6.5’-8’
60”-65”8’-9.5’
70”-75”9’-10.75’
80-85”10.75’-11.5’

This is a general guide and your actual size and viewing distance have to be measured and deduced from the actual site. 4K TVs can be hung 2-3 feet closer than these recommended viewing distances.

Quality of the TV:

A bigger TV is not necessarily better. If you have a limited budget, then it is better to go with a smaller screen size with higher resolution. 1080p TVS have a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. 4K TVs on the other hand, are designed for 3840×2160 pixel resolution. You can sit closer to 4K TVs and comfortably view them unlike the 1080 p TVs.

Besides, the screen size should also fit the wall against which it is mounted. Too large a TV and it will project out. Too small a TV and it will reduce the viewing experience. It is important to choose a TV that gives you the optimal viewing experience. You should be able to enjoy these little pleasures in life.
